About Sweetwater Creamery
We all need a bit of nostalgia from time to time that recalls our best childhood memories. Sweetwater Creamery, located in the heart of Sweetwater, TN, is that kind of place; it’s a one-of-a-kind, vintage-style ice cream shop. Offering over 45 flavors of gourmet, hand-dipped ice cream, each one is handcrafted using only the finest ingredients. When you walk into Sweetwater Creamery, it genuinely feels like you’ve stepped back in time. Classic 50’s and 60’s music plays while the smell of freshly made waffle cones fills the room. The servers wear button-downs and bow ties that evoke soda fountains from days gone by. From the moment you walk in, you feel as if you’ve come home to a happier and gentler time.
Not only is the atmosphere exactly what you expect for an ice cream shop, the ice cream is actually really delicious too! When it comes to flavors, Sweetwater Creamery does their best to surprise and delight both the casual customer as well as the avid ice cream connoisseur. Flavors rotate in each season, providing patrons with a scrumptious experience year ‘round! With almost 50 unique flavors there is always something for everyone. Maintaining a standard of fresh and wholesome ingredients, the Creamery uses purple carrots, turmeric and many other natural options for coloring in their ice creams. Known for their rich and mouth watering ice creams, they’ve attracted quite a following throughout much of East Tennessee. Although ice cream is their specialty, they also offer Italian ices, sherbet, custom-made sodas, and homemade bakery items.
Sweetwater Creamery is owned and operated by confectioner and chef Emily Phillips, a young entrepreneur born and raised locally in Sweetwater. After finishing business school at Lipscomb University in Nashville, then returning to her hometown, Emily decided to master another of her passions and attend culinary school. With a business background and bucket full of creative recipes in her head, she wanted to offer her community the best product possible. Not content to settle with the status quo, she continues to work with various private chefs to expand her knowledge in the culinary field. With a bonafide sweet tooth, a love for people and a deep interest in helping her community succeed, Sweetwater Creamery has allowed her the opportunity to enjoy all of these things!
Sweetwater Creamery believes in the importance of a strong community. As a family-oriented business, it’s always striving for unique ways to give back and support both the city of Sweetwater and Monroe County. An important way of doing this is connecting with Sweetwater High School’s work-based learning program. This allows students with learning disabilities to gain confidence through their first real life job experience. This in turn helps equip those students with the skills they need to be productive and support themselves in the future.
Not only is Sweetwater Creamery a destination to visit, they also provide several delivery options for special events, from festivals and concerts to weddings and everything in between! They operate a concessions trailer designed for larger events, an antique push cart that’s over 30 years old, and even a handmade, classic wooden boat for dockside deliveries on some of East Tennessee’s many waterways. Sweetwater Creamery goes above and beyond to provide a top tier service and product. They continue to grow steadily and are now selling wholesale to visitor centers, restaurants and coffee shops throughout the area.
Sweetwater Creamery is the kind of business that draws both locals and tourists, helping the small town, close-knit community to grow and thrive. Not only does it serve up some of the tastiest ice cream you’ll find in all of East Tennessee, it brings together friends and families to share special times together. And isn’t that what we all want a little more of these days?!? Next time you’re in the area, stop by and see Emily and her staff. You’ll leave with a happy belly and a smile on your face!
